Yep, it's broken.

I took Jake to the doctor yesterday and he's got a fracture.  It's a clean break (not in his wrist but at the bottom of his forearm near his wrist) and was still aligned fairly well.  Which is surprising since I found out he rode all day Saturday with it broken.  It was too swollen to cast now.  The doctor put a splint on it and we will go back on Friday to have it casted.

Now I know I've mentioned he wrecked his motorcycle, but your probably wondering more details.  So here's the story.

Once upon a time there was a young boy who went camping with his father.  Both the boy and the father enjoyed riding motorcycles very much.  So on this camp trip they took their motorcycles.  They woke up Saturday and said "It looks like a beautiful day to ride."

So after breakfast, they got their motorcycles out of the truck and went for a ride with friends.  The young boy thought it was fun to jump the water run-off breaks in the trail.  He had done this on several other trails before, and thought there was no harm in this.  Now being less experienced in riding than his father, the boy rode behind his father on the trails so he could see what he father did and follow his example.  On this particular day, the father was out of sight of the boy.  The boy did not see his father roll over this particular water break.  When the boy came upon it himself, he jumped it like all the others.  The poor young boy did not know what was on the other side.  For on the other side of this water break was a gully.  The father looked back just in time to see the boy's front tire nose-dive into the trail and the young boy fly over the handlebars.

The father, kind hearted and full of love for his son, rushed back to help.  The young boy instantly grasped his wrist to his chest in pain.  The father asked the young boy if he was okay.  The young boy being very brave replied yes and refused to turn back.  It had be quite some time since the family had rode their motorcycles and the young boy's desire to ride was strong.

Now this crash took place just 1.5 miles in on the trail.  The brave young boy pushed forward and rode the rest of the day with his father, completely another 36 miles!

That evening, the young boy's wrist was still swollen.  The father decided it would be best for the two of them to head back home.  So after dinner, they loaded camp and drove home.

The next day, the mother returned home to find a bandage wrapped around her young boy's wrist.  She inquired what happened.  The information provided was vague.  She had the young boy take off the bandage so she could see.  The mother, being wise, told the young boy that they would call the doctor first thing in the morning because she thought it was broken.

Monday morning arrived and the mother took her young boy to the doctor.  The doctor confirmed the mother's suspicions.  The young boy had indeed broken a bone.

Ahh-Oh! We're in trouble now!

Look at what I caught K-dub doing!  We are definitely in trouble now.  Guess I will buy a gate this week.  He can't get his knee up on the step yet, so we have a few days.

Okay, I was wrong.  I had gotten this post ready yesterday, but had it scheduled to post this morning.  Not even an hour after he stood up for the first time, he got his knee up and was able to completely climb the first step.  And of course he fell and bonked his head on the wall. Gate time!

Weekend Fun

Well it's been a little longer between posts than I've wanted.  K-dub keeps me pretty busy.  Since he has been with us, he has gotten 6 new teeth.  That right 6 in the last month.  And I think he's getting more.  He also started crawling last weekend.  Now he can track me down pretty quick.  I will have to get a gate for the stairs soon.  I'm starting to get a good routine with him now and he has definitely gotten comfortable with us.  He loves Jake and Ellie.  They can always get him to laugh.  He also loves Wayne.  When he hears the door open from Wayne getting home from work, he always stops what he is doing and looks for him.  It looks like we will have him for his 1st birthday next month.  I'm excited to have a little party for him.  He is such a great boy and it is a privilege to have him in our home.  Even with teething, he is a happy boy.  I can't wait to see how happy his is when those teeth stop causing problems.

This weekend Ellie, K-dub and I went to Mountain Home to craft with mom for her birthday.  We made some great projects and had fun visiting.  Donna and her friend, Lisa, joined us too.  The four of us always have a great time when we are together.  If you want to see what we made, you'll have to check out my Bokeh Creations blog.  I'll be posting those projects soon.

Wayne and Jake decided they would go camping since the rest of us were going to be gone.  They went to Idaho City to camp and ride.  But their weekend was cut short.  Jake got hurt Saturday morning.  He wrecked on his motorcycle and injured his wrist.  It's pretty swollen still.  He got behind on pain relievers today and was in quite a bit of pain come dinner time.  I will be taking him to the doctor tomorrow to see if he broke it.  Keep your fingers crossed that it's not!  I'll blog an update when we have one.

New Little Guy

Last Sunday, we got a call from the department again.  We took in a 10 month old boy.  He is a fun, happy-go-lucky boy.  His smile lights up the room and is contagious.  We find ourselves all smiling.  He is such a joy to have.

The first week was crazy busy with appointments and phone calls.  At first, it looked like he was going to be moved to family, but on Friday morning we found out a move would be unlikely.  Yesterday, I attended a meeting where it was decided that he would stay with us for sure.

To make the last week even crazier, we went camping Friday for a long weekend and didn't get home until Tuesday afternoon.  It's been a while since we camped with a little one.  We didn't take the stroller, but quickly realized we really could have used one.

Wayne and the kids rode motorcycles and shot guns, while little guy and I hung out at the camper.  Little guy loved watching Ellie ride back and forth on her four wheeler.  He would bounce on my leg in excitement.  We also found time for a couple rounds of Skip-Bo.

Ellie liked shooting Jake's bb gun.  By the end of the trip, her aim was pretty good.

Things should slow down now.  The kids start school on the 25th.  I'm very excited about this.  They are getting the "end of summer boredom syndrome".  Most of you parents know what that is.  Symptoms include fighting with siblings for no apparent reason and laziness!

The Main Event---Washougal MX!

The last stop on our trip was the Washougal Motocross on Saturday.  This is why we took the trip in the first place.  Wayne and I used to make the trip by ourselves but last year we took the kids.  And this year, we made it longer by going to the coast.  We are already planning next year with Stewart's.

Since most of you probably are not into motocross like we are, so I'll keep my descriptions basic!

Look at the hole shot that the #2 got. This is moto 1 and he kept the lead the whole time.

The #1 kept a close second in moto 1 but would take moto 2 and the overall.

The #22 didn't get a good start.  I think he ended up finishing seventh in moto 1.  He did better in moto 2.  He didn't seem to be on his game this weekend.  It's amazing how fast these guys are even on a bad weekend.

The #41, Trey Canard, is probably my personal favorite right now. During the supercross season, he had a freak accident and broke his femur. He hasn't been racing for a while. This was his second race back. In moto 1, he took third.

The #32 is from Idaho!  We keeps tabs on him.

This is the #41 on the medical cart.  At the beginning of moto 2, another freak accident took him out.  Since the accident was so severe, they red flagged the race.  It was pretty obvious that he was in a lot of pain.  They loaded him straight into the ambulance.  Rumors are that he re-broke his leg.  Since they were only a couple of minutes into the race, the restarted moto 2.

This is moto 1 in the lites class.  Smaller bikes, but still great racing.

This is #28, Tyla Rattray.  He is Ellie's favorite.  I'm not sure how he became her favorite.  He had a good day finishing 2/2 and a second overall.

Look! I got a picture of Jake's face and not his back!

Ellie and Wayne just enjoying the races.

On Sunday, we drove home.  It was a long day in the car.  I had to hurry and make my last posts of the trip before life at home got busy again.  Now I'm off to do some laundry and catch up on a week of being gone.

The Road Barely Traveled!

Since we have already traveled the road less traveled, the road we traveled on Friday was definitely the road barely traveled.  It didn't start out that way.  We left the Casa de la Playa and starting making our way to the Portland area.  Our first stop was revisiting the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.  Even though the weather was better, it was hard to get a good picture because of all the people.  We were able to go inside today and walk all the way to the top.  There are some really cool views from the light room.

It was low tide when we got there and there were some good tide pools.  Our family didn't go down to the round rock beach again, but Stewart's did.  They said it was better then the touch areas at the aquarium.  So there you have it.  Don't waste your money.  Just go the the lighthouse at low tide!

After the lighthouse, we went to a place called Izzy's in Newport for lunch.  It is an all you can eat place where you can custom order parts of the meal.  The kids loooooved it.  I have never seen Jake and Corbin eat so much food.  And to top it off, I think they drained the ice cream machine.  They kept saying, "Can we come here again."

After lunch is when we head down the barely traveled road.  We were going to go see this 240 foot suspension foot bridge and waterfall called the Drift Creek Falls.  The road quickly turned from a two lane to a one lane.  It was heavily lined with trees.  But it was very neat looking.  We made it to the parking lot.  It was a 1 1/2 mile hike down the bridge and waterfall.  Then you had to hike up to get back to the cars.  It was a well groomed trail.  The trees and greenery was just beautiful.  My pictures don't give it justice.

The walk down was pretty easy. From the bridge we went down to the creek at the bottom and climb across the rocks to get a better view of the waterfall.  The boys thought it was awesome.  They were like little monkeys climbing all over.

On the way back up the trail, Wayne and I took Jake, Ellie and Corbin on what they called the North Loop.  I was a harder and longer trail.  Brian and Julie took Devin the easy way back.  Devin was not happy about hiking at all.  He did okay on the way down, but really hated walking back up.  At the very end of the trail, Devin completely refused to walk any more.  Brian is such a great dad!

After we finished our hike, we were all exhausted and decided it was time to get to our hotel.  We noticed a road sign that said the highway we wanted to take to Portland was only 8 more miles down the road and it would be much further to back track.  We decided to take the shorter distance.  This is when the road got a little primitive.  The road narrowed and became gravel for parts of it.  We were very fortunate that it was only 8 miles!  At the end of the road, we stumbled upon this great covered bridge.  When we pulled in, there was a man walking over to the bridge from his horse barn that was just to the right of the bridge.  He was a cowboy and he was walking around with his shirt off.  He had some music playing loudly and apparently was taking a break from shoeing his horses.  I felt like we had come across a scene from a romance novel!  So if you know anyone looking, for this kind of thing, I'll send you the directions!  (Lisa, if your reading, he was too old for you.)

We made it to the hotel safely and slept like rocks!

Newport Sight Seeing

On Thursday, the weather was changing and it was supposed to be rainy.  We decide we would go to Newport and visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium.  It was overpriced for how big it was, but we still had fun.  Taking pictures in a dark building with lots of glass is the worst.  Very few of them turn out.  So here's a photo tour of the ones that did.

Trying to get our kids to smile for a picture after walking around for a couple of hours turned out to be quite a task, but we finally got one.  After the aquarium, we went to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.  The rain had just barely stopped when we left the lighthouse's interpretive center and it was beautiful out.  This lighthouse is probably my favorite on the Oregon coast.  We didn't make it in time for the tour to the top, but we plan to go again on Friday on our way to Portland.

While there, we followed one of the staircases down to this rocky coast line.  The rocks were so cool.  They were a dark grey and about the size of baseballs.  It was very hard to walk on but the sound it made when the waves receded was amazing.  I took video of it.  But since I don't know how to load video to my blog, you will just have to experience it for yourself sometime!

It's not too often that Wayne and I get pictures together or even family pictures for that matter.  I'm usually behind the camera.  It is so much fun to have another family with us that can take pictures of us.  Thanks, Stewarts!
